Your complete source for Connections answers

This page is a complete record of every NYT Connections answer — today's solution at the top, and every past puzzle listed below it. The answers above are the official Connections answers for puzzle #1120, released on Sunday, July 5, 2026. Each of the 16 words has been sorted into its correct group and colour-coded by difficulty — yellow (easiest), green, blue, and purple (hardest) — exactly as The New York Times ranks them. We update the page every day the moment the new puzzle goes live, so the latest Connections answers are always here first — and the answer to any earlier puzzle is right here on the same page.

If you'd rather not see the full solution, our Connections hints page gives you one clue per group so you can still solve it yourself.

Why each group connects

The trickiest part of Connections isn't always finding the words — it's understanding why they belong together. Here's the logic behind today's tougher groups:

  • AMEX CARD TYPESFancy plastic, extra perks! ✨
  • WHAT "W" MIGHT STAND FOROne letter, lots of meanings! 🔤

The purple group is almost always the hardest, often relying on wordplay, hidden patterns, or a “___ + word” trick rather than a straightforward category. When a group has you stuck, that's usually where to look.

How NYT Connections is scored

Connections gives you four guesses' worth of mistakes before the game ends. You select four words you think share a connection and submit them as a group:

  • Guess all four correctly and the group locks in, revealing its category and colour.
  • Get one wrong and it counts as a mistake — the game tells you only that the guess was incorrect, not which word was off.
  • Four mistakes and the puzzle ends, revealing the remaining groups.

A “Perfect” solve means zero mistakes. Solving the purple group first — the hardest — is considered the most impressive way to finish.

Tips to solve Connections without the answers

If you'd like to improve your solve rate rather than just look up the answers, a few habits help:

  • Start with the group you're most certain of to clear the board and reduce overlap.
  • Be suspicious of obvious groupings — the puzzle deliberately plants words that look like they fit an easy category but actually belong to a trickier one.
  • Look for wordplay in the leftovers. Once the easy groups are gone, the remaining words often connect through hidden patterns, homophones, or shared prefixes/suffixes.
  • Don't rush your fourth guess. With only four mistakes allowed, hold off when two groups look interchangeable and solve around them first.

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is a free daily word game from The New York Times. You're shown a grid of 16 words and must sort them into four hidden groups of four, each sharing a common thread. Several words are designed to look like they fit multiple groups, and you only get four wrong guesses before the puzzle ends. A new puzzle is released every day at midnight local time, with the four groups ranked from yellow (easiest) to purple (hardest).
