Clue explained

Lake Erie is one of the five Great Lakes and the shallowest of them. The Detroit River flows into it, and its water exits by way of the Niagara River, which passes over Niagara Falls on its route to Lake Ontario. Its position at the southern end of the Great Lakes system also makes it a major link between the upper lakes and the St. Lawrence waterway.
